the world of halcyon isn't the world as we know it, but it used to be.
there are only stories of what the people of the old earth were like and what they achieved in the days before the 9 kingdoms formed. little from that time exists save for the tarnished remains of torn books, bits of ruined sculptures, tattered art and peculiar frayed twists of metal.
long ago humans came back to the broken land; they seemed to come from nowhere. they might have been survivors of a devastating apocalypse or completely new beings created by the world's desire to thrive. the story changes depending on who tells it, but the one thing that remains the same is that when the wanderers came together, they lived in peace. they wanted nothing more than to create a beautiful utopia for their children and their children's children. but their vision of hope and serenity did not last. one among them believed in rigid government and only one voice to control them all. discord spread and a war broke out between all opposing sides.
today in the year 2515 it's obvious which side won the war. primorius, the central land, is home to a king that is neither peaceful or just. his ancestors took the most fertile and mineral rich land and doled out lesser lands to those that took part in the war. victorious and loyal families were given more favorable terrains to rule over while the less fortunate were thrown the scraps of harsh land with even harsher conditions.
tension is everywhere in halcyon and you don't have to look hard for it. the king on his diamond throne hears nothing of the whispers breezing though each kingdom. he doesn't know that some speak of a revolution vowing to take back the peace that once was.
